Lecanto Church of Christ History
BROTHER J.R. BIGGS:
He came from Kentucky and began preaching here a short time after Brother Mason. These two differed greatly in the matter concerning instrumental music in worship. Brother Mason held that no instrumental music was to be heard in the worship services, while Bro. Biggs held that there could be such. Brother Biggs was a very eloquent speaker and also taught school. He preached until the early 90’s.
BROTHER METCALF: He also came from Kentucky, but was a traveling preacher and stopped by for only one or two sermons in 1882. He preached in the log school house where Mr. Harrison was a teacher. It was in the next year the Union Church was built and named.
BROTHER WARREN COLSON:
He came around 1905 from Trenton, Florida. He found the congregation had no lights in the building and succeeded in getting the neighbors to quickly supply some. The first congregation consisted of two women and three men. Aunt Lou Morrison, Miss Jessie Carter, a teacher, John W. Davis, John Allen and C.P. Dickenson, school principal. Brother Colson continued to come back to preach in the Lecanto Church of Christ for many years.
BROTHER HOLBROOK: He was from Trenton, Florida &
BROTHER DUBOISE: Timmonsville, S.C.
These two were visiting preachers who preached one or two sermons. Brother Duboise was related to Professor Collins and came from FT. White, Florida. These two came before Brother Colson.
BROTHER COLSON:
A nephew of Warren Colson. He came to teach and to help in singing schools.

He was from Kentucky. He was very knowledgeable about the book of Revelations.

He was a very loud and forceful speaker.
BROTHER HAMMITER:
He was from Arkansas. He taught singing classes.
BROTHER PAYDEN:
He was from Tennessee. He was described as a kind and gentle man by a neighbor, who was as antheist.
